Article Summary

XTENDISE has a local database to store MAC addresses and their parameters. When searching for a MAC address, XTENDISE queries ISE API to find the MAC address and enriches it with locally stored information. XTENDISE considers ISE as a primary source of MAC address information and always overrides locally stored MAC acquired with entries retrieved from ISE if an inconsistency is detected.

The internal MAC address database is periodically synchronized with ISE using periodic jobs. There are two MAC address synchronization jobs - Full sync and Part. sync. Partial synchronization is periodic and runs every 12 hours by default. Full synchronization Job can be run only on demand and should be run only when there is significant inconsistency between local and ISE databases. This usually happens when there are MAC address changes made manually directly in ISE.

MAC address changes in ISE

We highly encourage you to use only XTENDISE for MAC address changes. If there is a need to make a large number of MAC address changes directly in ISE, then run a Full sync job after business hours to synchronize the XTENDISE local MAC address database again.

Please refer to here for more information about the synchronization jobs.
